Valkyrie Server

September 25, 2008

I was taking a break from leveling my SinX after school today and was checking iROWiki when something in the iRO news section caught my eye: “The Valkyrie server is spreading her wings!“. At that point, I knew I wouldn’t be leveling my SinX any more today @_@.

Valkyrie server is basically iRO’s version of the new free2play servers RO has been getting lately. And being a new server, I had to snatch up a few names and get somewhere in the server. Just in case my account runs out and I have nothing else to do.

A little warning before anyone else takes up Valk, leveling is painfully slow. Combined with the fact that dying rips out 3% now, leveling is more of an ordeal than usual. Draco and I spent the better part of 3 hours on the server and only managed to reach a meager lvl17 and 16. But its fun because everyone is a newb as well.

After making it to mage, I was surprised at what I got from the personality test. Apparently, it’s a slotted novi advent suit usable by all classes. And it gives 8 defense rather than the listed 3.

Annnnnd a pic of the south pront community.

I also took the liberty of reserving a few names for myself (Temp, Templar, Tempest, Temptation). I won’t be on tomorrow (friday), but hope to see you guys there!

Hissatsu, Soul Destroyer!!

Annnd, I’m out of sp. There are two things I overlooked when I first planned out my sinx stat build. One was underestimating the importance of hit for SD while the other was underestimating the sp cost. Missing a normal melee attack and missing an SD are two entirely different things. When you miss a normal attack, it’s no big deal, you’re attacking pretty much 2-3 times a second. When you miss an SD you lose 30 sp, get stuck in 3 second aftercast delay, and have to cast SD again. Sure theres the never-miss consolation prize of about 2k damage, but when an SD hit does 16k, 2k is hardly passible. As for sp, I found it no surprise that sins and sinxs have a low sp mod, but combined with the low hit problem, a lot of the 600sp is wasted on misses and non-1hitKOs. But lets back it up a bit shall we?

=====Soloing a no-flee high thief

…is nearly impossible. Its almost like soloing a battle high aco to job 50. Oh wait…

As far as the time I spent on leveling them, my high thief was definately faster than my high aco. I guess it really is easier the second time around. Picking up where my transing vid left off, my high novi was a total wreck. Draco was at school, so I stuffed everything in storage instead of giving the gears to his chars. Huge mistake. As it turns out, I completely forgot about the universal novi skill known as Basic Skill. Accessing storage would require me to be job 7 as a novice. Except coming out of transing, I was now 1/1 with a knife and a cotton shirt (and a sign, but 5% of 10 damage isn’t even noticeable).

I stuck it out at drops for 30 minutes worth of first aiding and sitting (did I mention I had 0 zeny as well?) before I got enough jobs to access my storage. After that, it was a cinch to finish up job 10. As I was going to change to high thief, I ran into a hoarde of familiars on the first floor. There were about 5 or so. And they hit me for about 30 damage each. And I had 70 hp. I was being hit locked by the mob, so I did the only thing I could: turn around and fight! Looking back, it was probably a pretty stupid idea to hang so desperately to life. Every fish heals me for maybe 120 hp, almost double my max, so spamming them was a huge waste. But I didn’t die. And I killed them all and went on to job change. Yey.

As a high thief, I figured I’d level on the peco map for the bill of birds repeatable quest. It worked out pretty well too. After spending some time there, I made it to lvl31. Sometime after the peco hunting, I was looking at the Subversion guild info when I noticed my tax points were going up. Uh oh. Turns out I still had 50% tax on from when I was still 99. Needless to say, I was shocked. Well, not really, just mildly surprised.

From lvl31 to about 40, I went to slaughter some wolves. Wolves are pretty decent for exp, not to mention they hit pretty softly. After lvl40, it started to get boring. And I started becoming a little more adventurous…

=====“Hi, are you becoming a stalker too?”

Sorry, “other high thief”, I’m just bi-curious.

I consider myself a weapon afficionado when it comes to RO. I couldn’t care less whether I use a +4 armor or a +7, nor do I care much for my defense (which is why I default porcellio armor most of the time), but when it comes to weapons, I just have to get the best for my classes. At one point, I even had 8 specialized chains for my champ. Sometime during my weapon collecting spree (which is the reason I’m dead broke), I picked up a formless comp bow for my bard. Lo and behold, I’m now using it on my low dex high thief. Even more surprising, the damage isn’t half bad.

Of course, with 70+ base str as a high thief, daggers would always outdamage bows. For an example of dagggers and devastating pre-2nd class damage, direct your attention to exhibits A and B:

 AB
Yep, still a str whore. But this time with a mercenary giving me provoke, decreasing my defense even more. Wanna know how much defense my sinx has right now? 20+1.
I stuck it out in ID1 for the rest of my job levels, and finally hit job 44.
My high thief’s skill build is basically 10 steal, 10 envenom, 10 double attack, 10 improve dodge, 2 hiding, and 1 detoxify. At this point, I feel secure enough about my thief’s skills that I decided to go ahead with the job change.
=====

After job changing, I went to kill some leaf cats. Then I started SDing leaf cats. And pretty soon, I was SDing everything. Heres a current screenie. No stats posted yet!

Time to Trans!

September 3, 2008

Like hell I will. After countless hours of research (I stopped counting after 5 minutes) I figured the one thing I really needed before I transed was a +7 Trip Dilligent Saber. It was really a toss-up between a trip dilli saber or a quad dilli mg, the latter of which calced out as slightly weaker than the saber. If I had a choice, I’d have gotten both, but alas, my funds are barely able to purchase 2/3rds of one, let alone both.

As it stands, I only have 2 zipper bear cards. I tried to go for a short run through kunlun to test my luck, but the numerous sin bots on the map sickened me to no end. So I bought the two cards from a merchant in pront, even though there was a pretty high chance those bots were his to begin with. RO is so unfair at times =_=

The build I was planning for my sinx was a hybrid SD/SB build, simply because I wanted to be able to do well in both PvM and PvP situations while still being functional enough to WoE and MvP. Basically a do-it-all sinx. Will it work out? Only time will tell!
