My RO History III

It’s come to my attention that I’ve missed an important transitional phase in my history. After Arcane broke, but before I created my wizard, I joined a few of the remaining members in a guild named Santa’s Secret Service, or SSS. It was led by Sumikiru and quickly became my new home after Payon was devastated. Our meeting spot was the small apartment complex on the right side of town. As this was just before the Power Cord nerf, we still partied around those little floating gems as usual. However, with the low chance of Class Change, the best we got were Bloody and Abysmal Knights. The Off the top of my head, a few of the members of this last remnant of Ethereal were Sumikiru, Sirid, ChrisR, DarkR, Twin, Draco (who at this time had finally had his own account), and I. After the Power Cord nerf, I decided to go on and lead my own guild.

Fast forward to the future!

Insurrection has always had an air of nobility surrounding it, with a roster seemingly comprised of the elite, the rich, and the powerful. It was the center of multiple controversies, a drama factory one might say. Yet, as a normal member, I saw very little of it. I wasn’t rich or famous, nor would I consider myself elite or powerful. I never participated in guild events other than WoE, and I saw no reason in trying to get into any social circles within Insur. But, I was satisfied. I felt glad to be a part of the major WoE scene, a place we all avoided in our youth.

Nothing really happened while I was in Insur that entire year. Iko`, who had been making WoE vids during the few months after I first joined, left with a couple other members to Existance shortly after a certain incident that divided Insur’s member base. He returned later, but fell into a depression when he realized the limitations agi monks face in leveling and took an all-or-nothing wager on upgrading. Despite this, I still consider Iko` a major influence, both in making vids and being an agi monk.

Personally, as an agi monk myself, I had little trouble leveling. The difference came from the fact that I had less agi and more dex as a monk, putting me at an intermediate point between spirit monks and combo monks, allowing me (and basically forcing me) to solo in places like TI2 with ease. While Iko` was still playing, I quickly and easily caught up to his level with relative ease.

Some time during my late 90’s, V hit lv98. Some time after that, he took a break. I personally didn’t know if he had 99′d or not yet, so I decided to push myself to 99 as well. Fueled by the 50% exp aniversary event (baseball cap event for those of you that remember), I also got my monk to 98. The late summer months used to be devoid of exp events, and as such, I set up a schedule for getting 99. After w eek or so of leveling, I decided on about 10% a week, putting me on an extended leveling schuedule spanning about 3 months.

And this was all solo. As an agi monk, I had no trouble at all fleeing turtles 95% of the time, and getting sp was as easy as simply spamming SSA on a turtle. But soloing was extremely boring. It’s slightly more interesting when there’s someone to chat with, but as it stood, V was away, and Insur is a vent based community. There are advantages to soloing though. You get to take a break whenever and whereever you choose. You could level for 5 minutes, or 2 hours, and noone would dissent.

Nearing the end of my level, about 2 months and 95% later, some of my Insur acquaintences offered to leech me for the remainder of the level in Geffen GD. After which they quickly turned around and PKed me after I 99′d… but I couldn’t care less, as I was now a shiny 99 monk!

I stayed 99 for a couple months, after which I decided to trans. As a champ, I’d be going to depart from my agi build towards a traditional spirit build. In doing so, nearly all my fists and weapons would become useless. But even so, I wanted to excel, so I went ahead with the transing process. I had some people help me through high novice and early acohood, but after that, I pretty much soloed again. Devoid of flee, I was forced to pack fresh fish into my usual retinue of essential items. It was after about job 44 or so, and after about 3 weeks at leaf cats, when I realized that soloing to job 50 was an extremely difficult task. Leaf cats don’t drop anything of real value, yet each one forces me to use somewhere in the range of 5 fish per kill. I was literally hemorrhaging money each and every hit. At about job 46, the very same group that helped me 99 also helped leech me the rest of the way to job50.

A job change and a few levels later, I became a champ. However, I was still very low-leveled and generally unfit to compete seriously in WoE without stunning for 10 seconds at a time or dying to a single hit of Storm Gust.

Btw, http://s14.zetaboards.com/HolyExe/topic/136924/1/ for screenshots and stuff from this particular time period!

And then V returned from his break, remaking HolyExe in the process.
